THE STUDY

Funen Art Academy is emphasizing practical and theoretical teaching. The teaching of art practice is done by the art subject teachers.

The educational structure aims to provide the student with a practice that reflects the student’s self and also a general understanding of art, plus a basic knowledge of how the art world is structured.

The teaching at Funen Art Academy is arranged according to a horizontal model, which is graded from the 1st to the 5th year. This education takes 5 years and is divided into two main modules: A 3-year basic module and a 2-year further module. The teaching is based on workshops, i.e. teaching through dialogue.

Funen Art Academy has three subject lines: Picture-based Practice, conceptual practice and digital media. These three subject lines are managed by the three subject instructors who are all visual artists. The subject instructors are the students’ personal advisers and also teaching in the workshops.

During the basic module, the students are also taught Art History and Art Theory. Art History and Art Theory I & II are compulsory subjects. The Funen Art Academy has one permanently employed teacher who is teaching Art History and Art Theory. The teaching of Art Theory is also done by visual artists, who apply theory to their work practice, and by art theorists.

The students are in addition taught about different materials in lectures by external experts (mainly artists). This teaching is also compulsory.

Some of the remaining teaching is done by external lecturers from Denmark and other countries, and this teaching is primarily done in workshops. About 10 large internal/external workshops and about 10 special and mini workshops are arranged annually. Each student must complete at least 10 workshops during his or her 5-year study period, i.e. averagely one workshop in each semester.

Some of the teaching is done in English.
